Job Posting Maintenance Staff Person  Reports to: Warehouse Coordinator 

Location: Orangeville Food Bank & Grand Valley Food Bank 

Salary Range: $40,000 -$43,000 ($21.97- $23.62 per hour) + Employer Paid Benefits  Employment Type: Full-time, five days a week, 35 hr work week per hour 

The Orangeville Food Bank is seeking a Maintenance Staff Person to ensure our facilities in Orangeville and Grand Valley remain safe, functional, and welcoming environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of various environments including cleaning the facilities and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. This role is essential to maintaining our operational effectiveness and supporting our mission to serve the community. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform daily cleaning of both facilities, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting to maintain high hygiene and safety standards, and to ensure a positive experience for clients, staff, volunteers and donors. 

  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs around the properties, as small painting or carpentry jobs, very light plumbing or furniture repairs, handling light-duty tools such as drills, skill saws, etc.. 

  • Manage snow clearing during winter months and general yard maintenance year-round in OFB. 

  • Maintain inventory of facility supplies and coordinate with vendors or contractors as needed. 

  • Reporting unsafe conditions and ensuring a safe working environment. 

  • Warehouse support as needed. 

  • Driving as required. 

  • Support other facility-related tasks as required. 

Qualifications 

Minimum Knowledge and Work Experience 

  • Experience in facility maintenance, custodial work, or a similar role. 

  • Experience operating a floor cleaner, or willing to learn. 

  • Experience operating a snowblower, or willing to learn. 

  • Knowledge of safe chemical and solvent handling practices. 

  • Basic knowledge of tools and general repair practices. 

 

Skills Required: 

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness. 

  • Experience with computer and email programs, such as Microsoft Office and Outlook. 

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others and able to work independently. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a friendly demeanor. 

  • Solid sense of discretion and professionalism; alongside empathy and compassion for those experiencing resource insecurity. 

  • Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills.  

  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.  

  • Possess a sense of humour and a positive, upbeat, personality, with liberal sprinkling of sunshine.

Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, lift moderate weight (30-50 lbs.), and work in various weather conditions. 

  • Push/pull a pallet Jack at 1200 lbs. for 200 ft.. 

  • Climb a step ladder. 

  • Lifting, bending, reaching and standing for extended periods of time. 

  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions. 

  • Obtain a Police Check. 

  • Maintain a current and valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract.

Small non-perishable items may be dropped into a bin at any participating Grocery Store (bins are a mix of wood & various store-provided bins).
