Job Description
Kitchen Assistant
Position Summary:
The Kitchen Assistant is a 30 hour per week position working under the Community Kitchen Coordinator and the Food Manager. This position will provide valuable support to our kitchen operations. The Kitchen Assistant will play an essential role in assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen facilities.
Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Preparation of meals and food items for distribution to clients through our Food Bank fridge and freezers, as well as our vending machines, and other community hub programs.
Kitchen Operations: Support the kitchen team in organizing and maintaining an efficient workflow, ensuring timely food production, and minimizing wastage.
Food Safety and Sanitation: Adhere to food safety regulations and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and workstations.
Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring and replenishing kitchen supplies and ingredients as needed, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
Volunteer Coordination: Support and provide guidance to volunteers assisting in the kitchen, ensuring their tasks align with food safety guidelines and organizational policies.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and other relevant information as required by the organization.
Safety and Compliance: Comply with all safety regulations and organizational policies to create a secure and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and clients.
Outreach and Advocacy: Represent the organization in a professional and positive manner, promoting its mission and values to the community when required.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a commercial kitchen or food service setting is essential.
Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices; which includes having a current Safe Food Handlers Certificate.
Be able to provide a vulnerable sector police check
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
Physical stamina to stand, lift, and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
A passion for community service and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
This is a one-year contract position, with the possibility of renewal
Rate of Pay: $37,000 annually
Interviews will be conducted on Thursday, May 28th and Monday, June 1st.
This position will start on Monday, June 15th, 2026
