Hiring – Market Coordinator

Market Coordinator

Reports to: Food Manager

Location: Orangeville, ON

Salary Range: $23.00 an hour – 15 hrs a week

Contract Date: 6 month duration — June 26th, 2023 to December 22, 2023

Background

The Orangeville Food Bank is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to supporting dignified food support to those in need. We provide perishable and non-perishable food through in-person shopping and deliveries, pick up reclamation food from local grocery stores, run a community kitchen program, and support local agencies with a monthly food share. We also pursue proactive solutions designed to end hunger through advocacy and by supporting local farmers and improving our local food system.

Job Function

The Orangeville Food Bank is piloting a Pay What You Can farmer-style market in and around Dufferin County. This new position will develop two market sites that feature fresh fruits and vegetables available on a sliding scale to local residents. The role will manage the organization, administration, ordering, and market delivery with the support of an assistant.

Specific responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate market sites with municipal partners

  2. Develop market promotional materials

  3. Coordinate the weekly running of a Pay What You Can Market including ordering, receiving, sorting, packaging and stock rotation with the support of an assistant

  4. Ensure compliance with food safety and health regulations.

  5. Gather and report on relevant statistical information related to market operations

  6. Manage POS system and market revenue

  7. Prepare and maintain all documents related to inventory, purchasing, & Receivables

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge and Education and Work Experience:

  1. Be a community builder with an outgoing disposition

  2. Have a solid understanding of community-based food programs, hunger/poverty/food systems issues, and a demonstrated capacity to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty.

  3. Have excellent organization, time management, and prioritization skills, with an ability to work well both independently and in a team.

  4. Possess a sense of humour with a liberal sprinkling of sunshine

  5. Food safety handling knowledge and certification preferred

  6. Experience with POS systems is an asset

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong organization and project management skills

  2. Intermediate computer skills specifically Microsoft Office

  3. Ability to give clear written and verbal instructions

  4. Demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with diverse populations

  5. Proven ability to motivate others and foster an energizing, cooperative environment

  6. Ability to understand and comply with Food Banks Canada’s Safe Food Handling Practices & Procedures.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to:

  1. perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift up to 50 lbs. regularly)

  2. push/pull a pallet jack at 1200 lbs for 200 ft.

  3. climb a step ladder

  4. be exposed to cold temps and work in a regulated refrigerated environment occasionally (below freezing)

  5. work on a computer keyboard daily

Maintain a current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record
