Market Support Staff
Reports to: Market Coordinator
Location: Orangeville, Shelburne, and Grand Valley, ON
Salary Range: Part-time contract position requiring evening work. Minimum of 16.5 hours per week at $21.00/hour

Background
The Orangeville Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing dignified food support to those in need. We offer both perishable and non-perishable food items through in-person shopping and delivery services. Throughout Dufferin County, we run over 14 distinct programs aimed at addressing food insecurity. Beyond immediate assistance, we pursue proactive solutions to end hunger through advocacy, supporting local farmers, and improving our local food system.
Job Function
The Orangeville Food Bank operates a Pay What You Can farmer-style market in and around Dufferin County. This position will assist in operating three market sites (Orangeville, Shelburne, and Grand Valley) that feature fresh fruits and vegetables available on a sliding scale to local residents.
Specific responsibilities:
Receive shipments and store them appropriately
Repackage and pack product
Inventory and rotate products in cool storage
Pack vehicle for the market with supplies and market produce
Assist with market setup and teardown
Interact with customers, take payment in cash or a POS system, update POS system as needed, pack grocery bags, and carry bags to customer’s cars if required.
Minimum Knowledge, Education and Work Experience:
Strong customer relations skills
Ability to work well both independently and in a team
Have an understanding of hunger/poverty/food systems issues and a demonstrated capacity to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty.
Possess a sense of humour with a liberal sprinkling of sunshine.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven ability to motivate others and foster an energizing, cooperative environment
Ability to understand and comply with Food Banks Canada’s Safe Food Handling Practices & Procedures
Working Conditions
Must be able to:
Perform moderate to heavy physical labour (lift up to 50 lb. regularly)
Push/pull a pallet jack at 1200 lb. for 200 ft
Climb a step ladder
Be exposed to cold temps and work in a regulated refrigerated environment occasionally (below freezing)
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather for a minimum of five hours at a time
Post regular marketing updates to social media platforms.
Must be able to drive a large van when required and maintain a current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
