Hiring: Kitchen Summer Student

Position: Kitchen Helper

Starting: June 26th to August 25th 35 hours/ week

The kitchen helper will support the Kitchen Coordinator in preparing, cooking, and packaging meals while maintaining a sanitary work environment. This opportunity will be in Orangeville. This position works collaboratively with the Kitchen Coordinator team, including volunteers.

Job Location: Orangeville Food Bank at 3 Commerce Road

Working hours: This position is based on a 35-hour week. Flexible work hours are required to fulfill the position’s obligations, and weekly schedules will be determined with the summer student and the Food Manager. Weekends may be necessary for outreach functions and events to promote the Orangeville Food Bank. The salary for this position is

$15.50 per hour—the deadline to apply: is June 23, 2023.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals and food items.

  2. Monitor food quality through visual inspection, temperature control, and sample tasting when appropriate.

  3. Follow food safety guidelines.

  4. Assist in the packaging of meals.

  5. Conduct and maintain daily sanitation practices and follow regular and established maintenance procedures.

  6. Washing and putting away dishes.

  7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Must be between 15-30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada.

  2. An interest in cooking, baking, and/or learning about commercial kitchen operations.

  3. Knowledge and skills in food safety, healthy cooking and nutrition are assets.

  4. Familiarity with using a commercial dishwasher, ovens, stove tops, and cold storage is an asset.

  5. Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  6. Ability to work efficiently with a high degree of independence.

  7. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

  8. Ability to lift and move boxes and equipment (up to 30lbs).

Donation Hours

Large or perishable donations:

Mon-Fri: 9:00am – 4:30pm

Small non-perishable items may be dropped into a bin at any participating Grocery Store (bins are a mix of wood & various store-provided bins) or into the blue donation bin at the front door of the Food Bank.

Tues: 10:00am - 1:00pm & 4:00pm to 7:00pm
Weds: 5:00pm to 8:00pm
