Hiring: Food Manager

Location: Orangeville and Grand Valley, ON


Salary Range: $48,000- $54,000 Per Year


Start Date: March 3rd, 2025


Background


The Orangeville Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing dignified food support to those in need. We offer both perishable and non-perishable food items through in-person shopping and delivery services. Throughout Dufferin County, we run over 14 distinct programs aimed at addressing food insecurity. Beyond immediate assistance, we pursue proactive solutions to end hunger through advocacy, supporting local farmers, and improving our local food system.


Key Duties

Food Stewardship

  • Manage cold storage food inventory – fresh and frozen

  • Ensure that the food inventory reflects community diversity and accommodates dietary alternatives.

  • Purchases perishable stock based on client volume, staying within budgetary limits

  • Liaise with donors, food suppliers, local farmers, and community partners to ensure continuity of stock.

  • Coordinate food pick-ups and deliveries in conjunction with the Warehouse Manager

  • Ensure safe food handling guidelines are consistently met

  • Keep Safe Food Handling Certification current

  • Communicate bulk food breakdown needs to volunteer in conjunction with Volunteer Coordinator with a focus on safe food handling

  • Support Warehouse Coordinator with relevant stock information to support product rotation


Administration

  • Attend internal and external community meetings as required.

  • Organize health unit inspections as needed and respond appropriately with respect to any recommendations or directives thereof.

  • Maintain accurate records for targeted food donations and grants pertaining to food purchasing

  • Manage expenses including gift card purchases, contribute to the development of the budget, and work within the annually approved budget as it pertains to the role

  • Coordinate purchasing and invoicing for community partners

  • Prepare monthly statistical reports for Executive Director

  • Provide information as requested to support grant applications


Operations

  • Coordinate garden programs including space, planting, and harvesting

  • Oversee programming staff including hiring, supervision, and administration needs including Summer Students, Kitchen and Market programs

  • Support volunteer staffed programs including Seniors Market

  • Communicate with Kitchen Coordinator on stock items and incoming food donations to optimize food production and reduce food waste

  • Develop and implement community programs to increase accessibility to fresh and nutritious foods in conjunction with Client Services and Programming Manager

  • In coordination with the Volunteer Care Team provide training and support to volunteers in breakdown, kitchen and stocking volunteers


Qualifications

  • Minimum education of a High School Diploma, with post-secondary education in social sciences, business, food management, or related experience.

  • Must have high emotional intelligence, empathy, self-control, interpersonal skills and a sense of humour.

  • Previous experience recruiting, training, supervising and scheduling volunteers is an asset.

  • Preference given to candidates with previous experience in food management (ordering, tracking, rotating food stocks).

  • Must always maintain Safe Food Handling Certificate & First Aid Certification.

  • A solid understanding of community-based food programs; hunger/poverty/food systems issues, and a demonstrated capacity to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty.

  • Proficiency in a variety of software and Internet based programs including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Link2Feed.

  • A valid G license and access to own transportation is required.


This position is a full-time, 35 hrs, 4-day a week position with employer paid benefits.

Donation Hours

Large or perishable donations:

Mon-Fri: 9:00am – 4:30pm

Small non-perishable items may be dropped into a bin at any participating Grocery Store (bins are a mix of wood & various store-provided bins).

Client Shopping Hours

Sat, Sun, Mon: Closed
Tues: 10:00am - 1:00pm & 4:00pm to 7:00pm
Weds: 5:00pm to 8:00pm
​Thurs, Fri: 10:00am to 1:00pm
